Whilst the sun may not have been shining today this didn’t seem to have dampened the spirits of the local bird life during a brief visit to an area known as ‘the ditch’. Read more about this habitat here.
All around birds were busy singing, courting & collecting nesting materials in preparation for the breeding season ahead.
The highlight of the day was spotting this female Chaffinch, high in a tree, calling and fluffing out her feathers with her wings quivering as a male watched on nearby. This was clearly an invitation for mating and sure enough within moments her partner swooped down from his branch and swiftly mated with her.
Although not a great photo technically, I am delighted to have captured this special and rarely witnessed moment.
