Splish splash

We are experiencing a rare treat in the UK at the moment… a bank holiday weekend with gorgeous weather as opposed to the usually dreary drizzle!

Here a feral pigeon is beating the heat by bathing in the shallow water at the harbour edge. This individual is a youngster as it has yet to grow the full iridescence neck feathers seen in adults.

Whilst bathing is important to keep the feathers clean and free from parasites, it does also appear to be a social activity, and perhaps pigeons sometimes even bathe just for the pure joy of it?

What a lovely series of photos, and the bird really does seem to be enjoying bathing.
