Just a couple of days into the new year and already my photography is off to a flying start with yet another visit to the Aberystwyth starlings. I doubt I will ever get bored of photographing these beauties as each brings a different experience for the senses. You never quite know how the starling are going to behave from one day to the next and the weather conditions are never quite the same providing a variety or colours and cloudscapes on which to capture their nighty antics.
Tonight was a bitterly cold evening with temperatures hovering just above zero and soon my toes and fingers were numb, making it quite tricky and painful to keep on pressing the shutter and not miss a crucial moment.
This first photo rather reminds me of a bird taking off with wings spread.
Nevertherless my discomfort was rewarded with some dramatic images of the flocking birds undulating over the sky. The setting sun illuminated the cloud tops adding just a hint of colour to create a nice contrast to the silhouetted birds.
